Until recently I worked as an editor at Hills Newspapers. I enjoy teaching local history not in the classroom, but with my walking tours, my history talks, my calendars, my newspaper articles, my Web site, oaklandhistory.com and now this blog.
Lately, I've been interested the Civil War. I was instrumental in the restoration of the Grand Army of the Republic plot at Mountain View Cemetery.
The Oakland Heritage Alliance honored me and my fellow volunteers for our efforts with a Partners in Preservation award (the third one I've had a share in, I'm proud to say.)
I have two published books under my belt: "East Bay Then & Now" and "San Francisco in Photographs." Erik Kos is my co-writer; Simon Clay took the photos for "East Bay" and Karl Mondon for "San Francisco."We have more up our sleeves.
